Transit Stock

Transits manage inter-warehouse transfers. Two workflows are available: staged transits (two-step ship/receive with an “In Transit” hold status) and direct transits (immediate transfer when Admin Option 507 is enabled). Use staged transits for physical shipments that require documentation and receiving confirmation. Use direct transits for same-facility moves where immediate availability is needed.

Quick Start

Use the transit path that matches the job:

  1. Use Inventory -> Stock -> Locate / Move for staged transits that need a slip, shipping step, and receiving confirmation.
  2. Use Direct Transit from the same page only when Admin Option 507 is enabled and you need an immediate warehouse-to-warehouse transfer.
  3. Use Inventory -> Stock -> Move Stock with Transit checked for batch grid entry.
  4. Use Inventory -> Management -> Restocking Transits when reorder settings should drive the suggested transfer list.

Inter-Warehouse Transits

Transfer inventory between warehouses using the Locate / Move page (Inventory → Stock → Locate / Move).

When Admin Option 507 is disabled, the page shows Place In Transit and Receive Transit buttons for staged workflows. When Admin Option 507 is enabled, these are replaced by the Direct Transit button.

Direct Transit (Instant Transfer)

Workflow:

  1. Navigate to Inventory → Stock → Locate / Move
  2. Enter search criteria
  3. Click Direct Transit

No transit slip is generated, no hold status is set, and no receiving step is required.

Transit Slip Documentation

Each staged transit generates a transit slip with a unique ID. The slip records:

  • Origin and destination warehouses, transit ID, creation date, and user
  • Item listing with quantities, descriptions, and serial numbers
  • Status: Open, Partially Received, Fully Received, Cancelled
  • Received date, receiving user, and reference numbers

Click the Reference link on any transit row to open the slip. Print the slip for physical shipment documentation.

Move Stock Grid Transits

Initiate transits using the grid interface for batch entry. Access: Inventory → Stock → Move Stock (Security ID 361).

Workflow:

  1. Navigate to Inventory → Stock → Move Stock
    • Page title in normal mode: Inventory Move; warehouse label: Warehouse
  2. Check the Transit checkbox - the page reloads in transit mode
    • Page title changes to Inventory Transit; warehouse label changes to From Warehouse
  3. Select destination warehouse in To Warehouse (source warehouse is excluded)
  4. For direct transits (Admin Option 507): select destination location in To Location
  5. Add items to the grid: Item ID, quantity, source location, serial numbers if required
    • Grid shows Item ID, Description, Available, At Location, Units, Location, Serial/Lot
  6. Click Save to stage rows for review before executing
  7. Click Transit to finalize:
    • Staged: Creates transit slip, places items on hold
    • Direct: Immediate transfer to destination

Grid utilities:

  • View selector: Switch between Move1, Move2, Move3 column views
  • Reset: Clears all staged grid rows
  • Inventory Move Help panel: Covers standard move, transit move, constraints, and button actions
  • Staging indicator: Header shows - New Move - or - New Transit - to confirm the current mode

See Move Stock for the complete grid interface and general move workflow.

Restocking Transits

Access: Inventory → Management → Restocking Transits

The Create Transits For Restocking page suggests transfers based on reorder points and par levels. Suggestions are reviewed before transiting - nothing executes automatically.

Page filters: From Warehouse, To Warehouse, Category, Center Code

Grid columns include: Available, Expected, Min/Max, Needed, Quantity To Pull, From Location, Transit? (per-row toggle), Pull by Serial (for serialized items)

The Restocking Transit Help panel covers status columns, selecting items, serial items, creating the transit, and validation rules. It also documents Admin Option 507 behavior (direct/instant transit) in this page context.

For full restocking configuration and workflow context, see Restocking Transits.

Mobile Transits

Mobile supports transit operations with barcode scanning. See Mobile Inventory Operations for the mobile workflow.

  • Serial numbers must exist and be available at source
  • Source and destination warehouses must differ

Locations:

  • Source and destination locations must differ for direct transits

Serialized items:

  • Serial numbers required and validated for uniqueness
  • Alternate serial/lot tracking enabled via Admin Option 271

Troubleshooting

“Cannot create transit to same warehouse” Source and destination warehouses are identical. Use Move Stock for same-warehouse location changes.

“Item not available for transit” Insufficient quantity at source, item on hold, or already in transit. Check availability and hold status in Locate / Move.

“Item not turned on for target warehouse” Item not enabled for destination warehouse (Admin Option 504 active). Enable the item assignment or disable Option 504.

Transit slip not generated Admin Option 507 is enabled - direct transits use a move reference, not a slip. Disable Option 507 if staged transits are required.

Items immediately available (expected In Transit status) Correct behavior when Admin Option 507 is enabled. Disable Option 507 if staged transits with hold status are needed.

Cannot receive items Verify the item has “In Transit” status. Direct transits require no receiving step. Confirm items have not already been received.

Partial receipt issues Click the units link, enter the quantity to receive now. Remaining units stay in transit status.
